Sushi with soy sauce was my reflection idea because I am a foodie and I'd be able to capture the relfecfion in the soy sauce. The medium I had to use was prisma color colored pencils, I already did not like them to begin with and I don't like them more now. The ellipses in the soy sauce dish were the most challenging part of this entire piece because they didn't flow or look right. I used almost every color I could get my hands on to layer and make colors stand out. Everything in the sushi container was good looking and had good highlights and shadows and I'm proud how that part came out. However, Id love to chop off the right half of this final project because the soy sauce came out awful. I don't plan on using prisma colors again because my skills did not increase at all and the project came out awful.
For the mixed media piece I decided to do a landscape. I took a picture in Ohio over looking a stream with a bridge in the background and used it for my reference. This piece ties in with my concentration because it is the idea. The mediums I used were chalk pastel, acrylic paint, and contruction paper. Chalk pastel was used in the background because I did not need heavy detail for that part. The middle ground, the trees, were various colors of acrylic paint. I used greens and yellows to capture the shadows and highlights. Lastly, the construction paper was used in the foreground. I used all of the mediums before besides the construction paper. This piece is one of my favorites because all the mediums manage to go together and work in harmony to execute the piece. I decided or at least want my concentration to be "Ohio", which is where I am from. Over the summer I took a lot of pictures around my hometown because I had my heart set on this idea. I took a picture of the inside of an old wooden bridge. I liked the picture because the wooden beams were strategically put there and it was detailed. I drew the inside of the bridge in pencil first, using two point perspective. Drawing all of the lines was the most difficult part because there were so many components to include. I do love the way this turned out but I would like to add more detail to it, such as black in the back ground but I haven't decided. Doing an arrangement of glass bottles was another one of my summer choices. I did not want to do your normal bottle so I went out and got ones that were all different from eachother so the composition would be decent. Chalk pastel was the medium I used because it is one of my favorites and I think it is easier to capture reflective objects with. I first did an outline and chose the colors I'd be using. Light shades of grey were the colors I started off with and went slowly using white and black. I do love this piece but I would've liked to not use so much pastel in the bottles so they would look more translucent. Another project I chose to do was unusual interiors. I knew that I wanted to do a closet of some sort so I decided to do an ink drawing of my friends wardrobe. The most challenging thing was the perspective because of all of the straight lines and the cabinet doors had to be angled specifically. This was my first ink drawing and I never had a ton of practice with this medium. I loved how it turned out because the shading in the folds of the clothes were realistic and detailed. The only disappointing thing were the smudges that happened while I was using my ruler. I later on did another piece in ink over the summer. Over the summer we were given several ideas for art pieces and were told to choose four. One I chose was the scene of drawing an object submerged in water and being able to capture the distortion of the object. I chose half of a geode to use for my object because it would be an interesting thing to do. The container I used was a fishbowl because it has a different shape than just a regular container. The medium I used was regular graphite pencil, which allowed me to capture the shadows and highlights. Pencil is one of my favorite mediums because it is easy to use and allows you to show more detail. In my opinion the distortion in this piece is easily shown because the geode is blown up and larger in the water and it is in a total different size above the water line. I am happy with the outcome of this piece because it turned out better than I expected. The only challenging part was capturing the reflection on the ground because it was the same as the real image but less detail. |
